Low Carbohydrate Diets and Their Health Benefits
By: Loss Design
Though low carb diets aren't as popular as they were years ago, they still have a very large following among a number of people. The reason that this is the case is because these low carb diets actually work. Studies have shown that people who are on a low carb diet have lost more weight that people who have remained on the traditional low fat diet for a period of six months or so. However, there is a disadvantage to all this and this is most due to the fact that the health experts are concerned that the diet recommends certain unsuitable foods. Before you opt to go on a low carb diet, you should consider the pros and the cons and decide whether it is the right strategy for you.
Despite the fact that low carb diets aren't as popular as they were years ago, they still have a number of adherents who claim that the diet is largely effective. The reason for all this is that the low carbohydrate diet really works. It has been shown that people who are on a low carb diet tend to lose more weight than those on the regular low fat diet in a six-month period. The disadvantage with all this is primarily that health experts are usually concerned about the fact that the diet tends to recommend fatty foods. Before you start out on a low carbohydrate diet, you should weigh all the positive factors against the negative ones and then determine which one is the right weight loss strategy to you.
It is a universally confirmed fact that the most popular low carb diet is the Atkins diet which was created by Dr. Robert Atkins of late memory, a number of decades ago. Ever since the diet came onto the scene a number of different diets seeking to imitate its success have turned up. These diets include diets such as the South Beach Diet, the Zone Diet, Sugar Busters, and Protein Power. All of these diets require that you reduce the amounts of carbohydrates you consume and not necessarily completely eliminate them. The primary sources of the carbohydrates should be foods such as vegetable and fruits. After all this you'll probably be much more inclined to forgo most of the starchy and nutrient-deficient stuff that you tend to consume rather regularly and take low carb meals instead.
Refined flour and sugar are the most likely foods that are liable to cause weight gain. Taking food excessively which is rich in blood glucose tends to trigger the additional production of insulin which helps in making your body convert the carbs to fat. By taking low carb foods, you make sure that you only get the amount that your body needs. When you’re deprived of surplus carbs, your body gets deprived and burns its existing fat stores instead of carbohydrates. By sticking to this diet you tend to lose more pounds of weight at a rate which is much faster than normal.
